Volunteering

Definition of Formal Volunteering

Formal volunteering is an activity which takes place through organisations or projects and is undertaken:

  • to be of benefit to the community and the volunteer;
  • of the volunteer's own free will and without coercion;
  • for no financial payment; and
  • in designated volunteer positions only.

  • Volunteering benefits the community and the volunteer.
  • Volunteer work is unpaid.
  • Volunteering is always a matter of choice.
  • Volunteering is not compulsorily undertaken to receive pensions or government allowances.
  • Volunteering is a legitimate way in which citizens can participate in the activities of their community.
  • Volunteering is a vehicle for individuals or groups to address human, environmental and social needs.
  • Volunteering is an activity performed in the not for profit sector only
  • Volunteering is not a substitute for paid work.
  • Volunteers do not replace paid workers nor constitute a threat security of paid workers.
  • Volunteering respects the rights, dignity and culture of others
  • Volunteering promotes human rights and equality.

Manages all aspects of running the club competitions in conjunction with GDSFA plus other associations and affliates.

Canteen manager.

Manages all aspects of running the canteen. Weekends and the odd weeknight required.

  • Show concern and caution towards sick and injured players. Give all players a “fair go” regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
  • Be impartial, consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions.
  • Accept responsibility your actions and decisions.
  • Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for the individuality of players.
  • Avoid any situations which may lead to or be as a conflict of interest.
  • Be a positive role model in behaviour and personal appearance and ensure my comments are positive and supportive.
  • Be a good sport and understand that actions speak louder than words. Always respect, remain loyal to and support other officials.
  • Keep up to date with the latest ‘Laws of the Game’, trends and principles of their application.
  • Emphasise the spirit of the game rather than the errors.
  • Refrain from any form of personal abuse towards players or other officials. Refrain from any form of sexual harassment towards players or other officials. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender,ability, cultural background.

Coach & Manager Information

football_coachThe Role of the Coach

Football coaches are responsible for training athletes in football by analysing their performances, instructing in relevant skills and by providing encouragement. The role of the coach will be many and varied, from instructor, assessor, friend, mentor, facilitator, chauffeur, demonstrator, adviser, supporter, fact finder, motivator, counsellor, organiser, planner and the FKB (football knowledge base).

The coach prepares training programs, assists athletes to develop new skills and uses evaluation tests to monitor training progress. The coach is always in charge of the team.

Not easy but it's a very important role and very rewarding.

All coaches, managers, senior players and parents are encouraged to take up membership and have a say in the future of OUR Club.

team managerThe Role of the Team Manager

The role of the Sports Team Manager can be very diverse but it does not need to be difficult or over-complicated. The duties generally relate to managing the team administration i.e everything other than coaching, such as organising match days, team photos, team social events, etc.

Coaches will be required to sign and pledge to the following prior to commencement.

  • I will remember that players participate for pleasure and winning is only part of the fun
  • I will never ridicule or yell at players for making a mistake or not winning
  • I will be reasonable in my demands on player’s time, energy and enthusiasm
  • I will operate within the rules and spirit of the game and teach my players to do the same
  • I will ensure that the time players spend with me is a positive experience. All players are deserving of equal attention and opportunities
  • I will avoid over playing the talented players and understand that average players need and deserve playing time
  • I will not use bad language nor will I harass players, officials, spectators or other coaches
  • I will ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of all players
  • I will display control, respect and professionalism to all involved with the sport including opponents, coaches, officials, administrators, the media, parents and spectators. I will encourage my players to do the same
  • I will show concern and caution toward sick and injured players and follow the advice of a physician when determining whether an injured player is ready to recommence training or competition
  • I will obtain appropriate qualifications and keep up to date with the latest coaching practices and the principles of growth and development of young players
  • I will not arrive at the fields intoxicated or drink alcohol at matches

To become a coach or manager you must also pay a nominal fee to cover the cost of compulsary ID card (proof of identity photo ID).

All coaches and managers who have a player under the age of 18 years must complete a Child Protection Form. This is mandatory.

The Club is run by a volunteer management committee comprising a 4-person executive and supported by 8 other committee members, each performing and managing a different role(s) for and within the club.

We are small, dedicated group of people who give their time freely to ensure that we all have the opportunity to enjoy our Football. So please, if you have a problem, come and see us so that we can hopefully sort it out. Let’s enjoy our sport and the time that we have together.

Club Membership

Becoming a club member allows you to vote at the Club's Annual General Meeting. To become a member you must pay a small fee.

  • New member fee is $5.00
  • Renewal membership fee is $5.00 per family

All coaches, managers, senior players and parents are encouraged to take up membership and have a say in the future of OUR Club.

Greystanes Soccer Club offers several sponsorship packages that will provide potential sponsors valuable marketing and assist the club with improving facilities for junior development. Greystanes plays in the Granville District Soccer Football Association and as such sponsors will have exposure in a region that extends as far north as Kellyville, east as Dundas / Lidcombe, south to Guildford and west to Toongabbie. In addition, many of our teams compete in additional cups and knockouts that are played throughout the year in various venues around NSW.
