Socceroos Take Australia to South Africa
The Socceroos are on their way to South Africa for the World Cup final with a 0 – 0 draw against a determined Qatar.
They needed only one game point to qualify and with the job done this will be Australia’s third World Cup appearance with second consecutive one. This means the Socceroos cannot finish any lower than second in Asia's Group A, with the top two teams earning qualification.
It took Australia 32 years since 1974’s first World Cup appearance for Guus Hiddink to take the Socceroos to Germany in 2006 and now with another Dutchman, Pim Verbeek, the Socceroos impressively made it through the tough Asian qualifications ensuring their spot in South Africa. Congratulations to Pim Verbeek, his staff and the Socceroos for this fantastic achievement.
The Socceroos now have with two games still to play - matches against Bahrain in Sydney on 10 June and Japan at the MCG in Melbourne on 17 June.
